If you follow me on Twitter, you know that for the last couple of weeks I have been stalking Chase Utley closing in on the 1,000 hit mark of his career. Well, after struggling at the plate for the duration of the 9-game road trip, he finally attained the milestone Wednesday in San Francisco in the last game of the Phillies’ west coast swing. In his 912th game and 3,388th career at-bat, Utley chalked up his 1,000th career hit on a single to right field on the first pitch he saw from Giants closer Brian Wilson with 2 outs in the top of the ninth inning.
