Cocks in the Hen House 07.14.10: ZooWithRoy.com Wrote a Thing for the Girl Blog

“Cocks in the Hen House” is a weekly column by friends of the Chicks that aren’t, well, chicks. Stop by every Wednesday to see what the men-folk have to say about the weeks biggest baseball stories.

By ZWR (@zoowithroy)

Part I
An ad hominem attack on a homophone, in which it is accused of being a homonym (with the help of another homonym, though that was purely coincidental):

“Don’t believe the stupid Phillies, their last three years of success were a fluke anyway.”

Part II
I suppose it in certain ways justifiable to say something apropos of anything upon which this fine blog relates, so I’ll leave you with this: Though apparently an unpopular stance, I’m all for having one player from each team make the All-Star roster of his respective league. “But ZWR that’s stupid because now the games mean something!” Stop with that nonsense. The easiest way for the game to mean something would be for the players to care, and they don’t as much as folks did in an era that’s well past gone and of a spirit irrecoverable (we’re going too far astray) so let’s just move on from that. There’s a consequence tied to the game, but it doesn’t “mean” much of anything other than a roster bonus, an accolade reached, and a chance to do something silly when they announce your name in the pregame ceremonies. I’m not really against any of that, either. Back to my point: fans of dog poop teams, if they get something out of seeing one of their players represented… well good for them. If nothing else, I got to sit with my old man and see Kevin Gross tip his cap in 1988. How would I have felt if my Phillies, who were putrid that season, didn’t even get to participate in the All-Star game (the third grade ZWR’s feelings argument, yo)? Not crappy, but crappier. It’s enough of an indignity for Royals and Pirates fans- not the franchises, the fans- to know they have no shot; telling them that they can’t go to prom because their parents are behind on tuition is just too much.

Okay, bye.

ZWR has a face-breaking bolg that we’re sure you already read.  Buy his t-shirts so we can continue to blow up his twitter stream with tweets like “OMGZ THERES A ZWR SHIRT AT A PHILLIES GAME, YO!”  Fun for the whole family.
