Although he labored at times, Cole Hamels picked up his fourth consecutive win as the Phillies beat the Marlins 2-1 in Miami tonight. Hamels (11-10, 3.01 ERA) tossed 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and one run while walking two and striking out a season-high 13. His 25-inning scoreless streak came to an end in the first inning when Marlins left fielder Logan Morrison scored on a soft single by Dan Uggla.
Shane Victorino provided both runs in the win, scoring from first on a Placido Polanco double in the first inning, and again on a bases-loaded groundout by Jayson Werth in the fifth.
The Phillies offense could not capitalize on the five hits and ten walks allowed by Marlins pitchers as they went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Fortunately, two runs was all that was needed as the bullpen was able to preserve the win. Chad Durbin collected the final out in the seventh, and Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless eighth despite allowing a hit and a walk. Brad Lidge, pitching for the first time since September 6, retired the side in order to record his 22nd save of the season.
This win, coupled with the Braves 6-0 loss to the Nationals, gives the Phillies a two game lead over Atlanta in the NL East. It also ensures that the Fightins will have their sixth consecutive series win.
The Phils go for the sweep tomorrow night as Roy Halladay (18-10, 2.44 ERA) faces some poor sap in the final game of the series.

Chicks Dig The Long Ball 
You forgot the part where Cole swore like a sailor. Pretty much made my night, personally.
Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I was watching the game with the sound off while listening to LA and Scott. (That’s a standard practice for me.) I totally missed them when they happened live. I guess I should learn to read lips!
Well, some you could read and some you couldnt. The first time he dropped the F I thought it was someone in the stands yelling it. That stadium is about the only place where I heard every swear clear as day, seeings as theres about 10 people in the stadium and they are all wishing they were somewhere else, whereby the noise level was minimal.
And thumbs up to watching the game with the sound off. I usually either go TV or RADIO and dont combine the two, but maybe Ill give it a try. It has to be better than Wheels commenting on the fact that the “New York Life Safe and Secure at Second” organ sounds like the Phantom of the Opera… everytime it comes on.
